St. John’s Episcopal Church feels the responsibility of being a better steward of God’s creation. No longer is it acceptable to damage the environment. In order to truly tackle climate change, we can no longer afford to continue with business as usual.

Our most recent “greening”activity was the full replant of the sign garden with natives and nativars. This improvement will use less water, take less maintenance, and attract mores pollinators.

Our other efforts so far to reduce our footprint are as follows:

  • Recycling batteries and ink cartridges
  • Recycling all possible paper and cardboard (bulletins, office paper, envelopes, shipping boxes, etc.)
  • Recycling glass and eligible plastics
  • Taking yard waste for recycling
  • Replacing light bulbs with LED bulbs when possible
  • Programming the thermostats to accommodate the use of various spaces as efficiently as possible
  • Encouraging people to turn off lights and fans when they are not needed
  • Replacing our Styrofoam coffee cups with paper/recyclable and washable cups
  • Selecting the parking lot resurfacing method to minimize the environmental impact
  • Requesting our lawn crew to abstain from use of chemicals on the grass
  • Consulting arborists about tree trimming and replanting
  • Volunteering for street cleanups
  • Volunteering help with a neighborhood community garden
