O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. – Psalm 95

At Saint John’s Episcopal Church, we take the role of music in worship seriously. Through hymns, anthems sung by the choir, and organ music, we seek to support God’s Word and enhance our worship experience. Our musical repertoire spans from ancient to modern, all presented in a traditional style that is accessible and meaningful to everyone.

Music in worship is led by the Saint John’s Choir, a dedicated group of volunteers who rehearse weekly to fulfill their leadership role. During the regular season (September to May), choir rehearsals are held on Wednesday nights at 7:00 p.m., following the Wednesday Night Dinner, with an additional warm-up on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. During the summer months, only the Sunday morning rehearsals take place.

Choirs have been an integral part of Anglican worship from the very beginning, leading psalms, hymns, and canticles in cathedrals and parish churches. Saint John’s takes great pride in the high standards and rich legacy of its choral tradition. This tradition began with the church’s first boys’ choir in the late 1890s and has continued through generations of volunteer singers who have shaped our choir into the outstanding musical institution it is today. In recent years, we have taken steps to further preserve and enhance the excellence and beauty of our worship music with the addition of four choral scholars.
