Parish Health Ministry Mission Statement:

The Parish Health Ministry Team works to protect, promote, and optimize the health and well-being of the congregation. We identify and respond to the church’s needs by providing resources, education, guidance, and nurturing based on the “wholistic” concept of integrating body, mind, and spirit within our faith community.

The Parish Health Ministry Team is dedicated to supporting the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of our congregation. Convened by our parish nurse and other healthcare professionals, the team may expand to include other parish members in the future. Each month, articles are contributed to The Messenger on topics related to both individual and communal health.

To date, initiatives have aimed to foster learning, connection, and “wholistic” well-being:

Vestry Training: Developed and led Leading from the Heart, a two-day training inspired by Brené Brown’s Dare to Lead.

Summer Reading Group: Explored A Faith for the Future by Jesse Zink, part of The Church Teaching Series.

Conversations on Death & Grief:

In November 2023, hosted A Conversation About Death, a five-hour event featuring discussions on theology, near-death experiences, legal planning, hospice care, and funeral preparation. Nearly 40 participants attended, and many requested a follow-up.

Offered Good Grief in November 2024—a shorter workshop with expert speakers addressing the process and tasks of grieving.

Looking ahead, mindful of the internationally recognized “epidemic of loneliness” the team will continue seeking ways to foster deeper connections within the parish and beyond.

The goal of the Parish Health Ministry Team is to help individuals discover and embrace the wholeness found in the body of Christ.

For questions or program suggestions, please contact our parish nurse, Cheryl Calvin (Moon).
